The Government, over the past few years, has been professing its intention to do more business with SMEs by encouraging more small business owners to tender for contracts and making the tendering process accessible to more businesses than ever before. Although the contracts on offer tend to be of a large scale supply of services, local authorities are free to purchase products and minor services without putting these expenses out to tender. However, according to the Federation of Small Businesses, approximately 25% of their members sold into local authorities in 2006 and in 2008 the FSB calls for more support from the Government to raise the share of contracts to small business to 30%. We are not an FSB member, but we do supply services and products to the public sector and in particular, local authorities.
Why sell to the public sector?
Since the UK recession became official, a new rule was implemented in the public sector which means that all invoices must be paid within 30 days of receipt. This is helpful as I’m sure everyone can appreciate the difficulty involved in chasing private sector clients to ensure cash flow. Your local authority is not a likely contender for liquidation either, unlike the increasing number of private sector businesses, struggling in the new economy.

As part of my own marketing efforts I have collected my own database of local authorities. I have 428 of them, covering England, Wales and Scotland and all are either District, County, City or Borough level. I’ve collated the name, address, contact email (where applicable), website URL, telephone, minicom/typetalk, fax and opening hours. The data is provided as Microsoft Excel (.xls) and CSV (Comma Separated Variables) and all our data can all be yours for a single payment of £49.00.

Before you go looking, this is a fantastic credit-crunch-tastic deal. Other competitors for these lists will charge twice this amount up front and require an additional IP lease subscription. With us, the price you see is the price you pay. (And speaking of pay – I’m using FastSpring to handle online payments; I’ll review them in a later blog post).
If you have a product or service that you feel would be of benefit to local authorities, why not purchase this marketing list and tell them all?
Hi
I found this while I was serching for local US based ISVs. Do let me know if you can provide a readymade list containing names of local ISVs including their short profile.

Hi Tirthankar,
At the moment we don’t have a database of ISVs. Is there something specific (e.g. a certain demographic / country) that you are looking for?
Coming soon are lists for nurseries, primary schools, secondary schools, hospitals and more! 🙂
Best,
Mike
